Your Gateway to Public Service in South Africa

Working for the government offers more than just stability; it is an opportunity to contribute to the growth and service of the nation. In 2026, the application process has become more digital, but the fundamental requirements remain strict.

The Application Process

To be considered for any public sector role, you must follow the formal recruitment protocol established by the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA).

Essential: The Z83 Form

The Z83 is the mandatory "Application for Employment" form for all government jobs. As of 2026, you must use the new Z83 form (effective from 2021). Applications on old forms are often disqualified immediately.

1
Find the Vacancy: Check the weekly DPSA Circular, official department websites, or the E-Government portal. Each advert has a unique "Reference Number"—you must include this on your Z83.
2
Prepare Documents: Ensure your CV is updated. While the government has moved toward not requiring certified copies for the initial application, you must have them ready for the interview stage.
3
Submission: Check if the advert requires an online application, hand-delivery, or post. Always keep a "Proof of Submission" if applying in person.
